Hendersonville’s Second Half Comeback Comes Up Just Short

Every game between Hendersonville (NC-2) and R-S Central (NC-1) this season has been epic. The first game at Hendersonville was a 1-point game,. The second at R-S Central went into overtime. Tonight, during the Mountain 7 Championship game, once again the score was a 1-point game. In 12 quarters of regulation play, these two teams battled to only a 2-point difference.

Unfortunately for Bearcats, they fell short in each of the three games. R-S Central was the only team that has had Hendersonville’s number.

The first half of this game was all R-S Central. Hendersonville’s open layups simply would not fall. Jumpers that have fallen all season popped off the rim. At the end of this half, Hendersonville trailed R-S Central 37-20.

But the Bearcats came out to make a statement in the 3rd quarter. As the 4th quarter started, the 51-44, and continued to climb back into the game. In the final minutes the Bearcats led the Hilltoppers and the teams started trading baskets makign it one of the most exciting 2nd half games I’ve seen.

I’m so proud of these young men and how hard they played tonight. Coming out of halftime I knew in my heart they had what it took to get back into the game, and they didn’t let me down. Congratulations on a great regular season, and a great conference tournament.

Now, on to State!
