I have spent a lot of time over the years celebrating the accomplishments of the teenagers in our community. I love celebrating these young people and all their accomplishments.
Today, however, I want to share something much more personal and important to me with you. I have been the luckiest dad on the planet for the past 18 years. I’ve watched my oldest son, Donald, grow and accomplish so much. He left home and West Henderson last year to finish his high school Junior and Senior year at the North Carolina School of Science and Math. And while he had a great time at West, he loved and thrived in the residential program at NCSSM. He was a strong student there, and he held several leadership roles on campus, forging deep friendships along the way. I hate that I missed out on his junior & senior years with him, but I could not be more proud of what he has done!!
This is not the senior year that any senior would choose. However, we are all making the most of it, and preparing for the next steps in life. For seniors, this means looking forward to an incredible future. Donald will attend NC State this fall for Engineering. I am 100% certain that he will excel there.
