Oh, my heart breaks tonight. I’ve enjoyed watching the Hendersonville High School soccer team this season. I’ve been to several games, photographed their seniors, and rooted for them every game. From the first time I watched them play, I knew they were a special group. They play well together. They support each other. They trust one another. And they won together.
And tonight they ended their amazing journey. This team came into the home playoff game undefeated and looked strong. And they played hard and strong against a visiting team who was talented, but also a bit meaner. The visitors didn’t want to win more, but they were more willing to do things to get it. Things that they should not be proud of. The young women of Hendersonville refused to stoop to those levels. And unfortunately, the scoreboard was against them in the end.
The evening turned downhill when the visiting team collided with Hendersonville’s Keeper, Cam Coggins, who went down for over 10 minutes while she was tended to on the field. Reports after the game said she suffered from an extreme concussion, and I am praying for a speedy recovery for you Camryn!
I am so excited that I was able to photograph this team this season. They are an amazing group of young women, and my heart aches for them tonight. You ladies are tremendous people and were a great team. Thank you for a great run!
