It is no mystery that I am a huge volleyball fan. I love the action on the court, and the level of play in Western North Carolina is absolutely incredible! My love affair with this game began 4 years ago when I went to a West Henderson volleyball game to watch our neighbor Casey Brown play her freshman year.
Casey is absolutely one of the most hardworking young women I know. She worked hard over her four years to improve her volleyball game. She played for Xcel’s elite teams, and she was a dominant hitter for the teams she played on. I watched defenders get a look of fear in their eyes as they realized the set was to Casey and she was about to drill the ball home. Over and over, year after year, Casey continued to get kills – 861 of them in total. This was in addition to her 513 digs and 218 blocks. Casey is a beast on the court and feared by opponents whenever she gets to the court.
Although she is a dominant volleyball player, she is also an incredible student. She has constantly represented her class as one of its top students. She is a member of the National Honors Society and been a member of the West Henderson SheepDog club for years. On and off the court, Casey is a shining example of the best that West Henderson High School has.
So I am thrilled that she will continue her play in college as a division I player for The University at Albany in New York. Sadly, it is too far for me to continue photographing her career, but I am so excited that she will be playing at the next level.
Casey, thank you for introducing me to this game. I have loved watching you play, and I am so proud of you. Good luck to you as you continue your career, and I will cheer you on for all the accomplishments you still have in front of you!
You can see my tribute to other local athletes and students who are playing at the next level that I’ve had a chance to photograph over the years here. I’m proud to have gotten to know so many wonderful local young men and women who represent the area so well. So proud that Casey has joined those ranks!
