It has been a few days now, and the sting still hurts. As a huge fan of West Henderson’s incredible Volleyball team, it hurt to see these ladies finish the season just one game short of their goal. However, the sting is eased by realizing how incredible these young women are, and all that they have accomplished. Yes, West Henderson Volleyball is one of the best teams around, and I am proud of all they have accomplished this season.
In this game against Marvin Ridge, the Falcons faced a very tough team (who went on to win State the next match) who played them tough. But also West Henderson played them tough. The Falcons challenged every single point and played with heart and skill. The Mustangs didn’t get a free pass – they earned their victory. In the end, the Falcons fell 3-0. Some of the most special images I’ve taken this seasons are the ones of the players, coaches, parents, and friends consoling each other after the game. Though they were on the road, the wonderful fan base that came to the Charlotte area showed the love that these ladies have in our community.
One significant thing that was so wonderful to see was the large student section at each game this season. These students energized the team, and they picked them up emotionally when the games got tough this season. They played a huge part in West’s come-from-behind-win over conference challenger AC Reynolds, making it seem like a home game in the final sets of the game.
The Falcons lost just three games all season. They beat teams from across the region, and they dominated the local competition. These young women played strong teams, continuing to hold their crown as the region’s premier team. The Falcons finished the season as the #5 team in the state for all divisions, and #3 in their class. What an amazing accomplishment!
To the seniors, I am so thankful for you all. You are the first class I’ve seen all four years, and I cheer and celebrate your success. Like a good fan, sometimes I can Monday-morning-quarterback, but I am confident that your leadership and your wisdom is better than my untrained eye. Thanks for allowing me to create your senior banners at the start of the season. More importantly, thanks for letting me tag along with you these past four years.
I love you all, and I am so proud of you.
