This weekend every year plays host to the Land of the Sky Marching Band Competition at Enka High School. This is a great event for the area’s marching bands. While I was there, schools from South Carolina, Tennesse, and North Carolina were there competing in multiple categories.
Several local schools competed in the competition in different categories. West Henderson, North Henderson, North Buncombe, Tuscola, and TC Roberson all dazzled the crowd with their performances.
I have to have a proud dad moment: so proud of how Claire & West Henderson’s band performed. The trophies that the West Henderson Band brought home included:
- 3rd Place, Percussion
- 3rd Place in Class
- Spirit/Fan’s Choice Award (The audience loved the performance of the West Henderson Band)
I do have one question: Did Ozzy Osbourne realize that his song “Crazy Train” would be featured in marching bands by kids his grandchildren’s age when he first performed the rebel song in 1980? It is so fun to watch how music changes over time…
Photos from some of the acts performing at the Land of the Sky Marching Band Competition can be found below. Next up: TC Roberson’s band competition on October 6, 2018.
