I pulled into Xcel in Fletcher yesterday with the same feeling of excitement that I used to have as a young child on Christmas morning. Volleyball was starting: The Mountain Bash scrimmage/jamboree was underway! This annual event, now in its 7th year, starts for me the beginning of the high school sports season. Over 40 high school programs – JV and Varsity – started play at 9 am and continued until about 5.
The teams were able to work on lineups, new rotations, and new plays in a very competitive environment without the pressure of losing. But, oh, man, all the athletes wanted to win! Players shouted when they played well, and they picked each other up when they struggled. I saw Division I show their stuff, and beginning refs learn how to call the game. This was a very successful (and long) day, and I am so excited about the upcoming season.
Thanks to all the teams who allowed me to roam their sidelines and capture some photos of their teams at work!
