Today my phone buzzed. Max Preps was informing me that the state rankings for the Girls Volleyball team were out. While you have to play our opponent, I was elated to see that the Falcons were ranked number 7 in North Carolina. Then I looked down at the list and saw that number 8 was Enka. The Falcons just played a tough match against TC Roberson, who is now ranked number 12, but now they are facing the number 8 team in the state. Can we catch a break and have an off night?
The games opened with a quick run by West to take a several point lead. Then Enka decided they were there to play and they started playing as good as they were billed: tough. The balls started falling where they needed them, and they were able to rally and win the first set 25-23.
Coach Lowrance pulled the team over, and she knew exactly what to say to get these young ladies motivated. She has impressed me all season working her players in the game, motivating and correcting them to make sure they kept their eyes on the prize. And for the next three sets, the team responded, winning 25-12, 25-19, and 25-20. While the Jets were able to have brief runs, the coaching and play of the Falcons allowed them to bring the victory home for the Falcons.
So proud of all of you, ladies!
I’ve posted pics of the JV and Varsity games below (registration is required).
